Split Airport Transfer Guide 2026: All Options Compared (Updated)

Quick Answer

Split Airport (SPU) is 20–24 km from the city center, a 30–45 minute drive depending on traffic. The cheapest Split Airport Transfer option is the public bus (around €3). The best value is the new Platanus shuttle (replaces Pleso, which stopped operating in February 2026). The most reliable for early or late flights is a pre-booked private transfer or Uber — with one important caveat I’ll explain below.

The most common mistake I see tourists make isn’t choosing the wrong transport — it’s not choosing at all. They walk out of arrivals, get approached by someone whispering “taxi?”, and end up paying double. I fly out of Split several times a year and I’ve tried most of these options myself. Here’s what actually works in 2026.

What Changed in 2026: The Pleso Shuttle Is Gone

If you’ve been to Split before or read another guide, you’ve probably seen Pleso Transport recommended as the airport shuttle. That information is now outdated.

Pleso Transport officially ended its Split Airport route on 1 February 2026. The new official shuttle operator is Platanus, which is an official airport partner. If you arrive at Split Airport and look for Pleso, you won’t find it.

This matters because most travel guides — including large ones — still list Pleso. KUKUVIA is updating this now so you don’t show up confused.

The Platanus shuttle runs from the airport approximately 30 minutes after each flight arrives, available around the clock. Tickets can be purchased at the airport, at Split Bus Station, or in advance at ticket.platanus.hr. Contact for questions: +385 99 275 10 39.

Note on price: Pleso charged €9 per person. Platanus pricing was not yet published at time of writing — confirm the current fare on their booking page before you travel.

Uber / Bolt€25–4030 minDoor-to-door convenience
Local taxi€45–5530 minGroups, night arrivals
Public Bus #37~€355 minBudget travelers with small bags

Two Warnings Before You Start

Warning 1: The Unlicensed Driver Approach

When you exit arrivals, you will likely be approached by men offering “taxi” — sometimes quietly, sometimes insistently. These are often unlicensed drivers with no meter and no accountability. Politely decline and keep walking. Use the official taxi rank outside the terminal or book via the Uber or Bolt app before you land.

Warning 2: The “City Center” Trap (This Really Happens)

Tell a Split taxi driver “take me to the city center” and there is a real chance he will drive you 5 km outside of Old Town to a shopping mall called City Center One.

This sounds absurd, but I know it firsthand. My first job was at the reception desk of City Center One — the mall with H&M, McDonald’s, and a multiplex cinema. Confused tourists would walk in every single day. They’d told the driver “city center,” the driver heard “City Center,” and that’s where they ended up. I’d call them a new taxi to take them to the actual Old Town.

When City Center One opened, locals started calling it just “City Center” — the “One” dropped out of everyday speech. So to a driver, “city center” is genuinely ambiguous.

What to say instead: Ask for “Old Town” or “Ferry Port” (Trajektna Luka). The ferry port is a 5-minute walk from the Palace gates, and every driver knows exactly where it is.

Platanus Shuttle Bus (Best Value)

Platanus is now the official shuttle operator for Split Airport, replacing Pleso Transport which ended its Split route in February 2026.

What you need to know:

  • Departs the airport approximately 30 minutes after each flight arrival
  • Drops off at Split Main Bus Station (a 5-minute walk from the Ferry Port and Old Town)
  • Timetable from the city varies by day — check the current schedule at platanus.hr
  • Tickets: buy at the airport desk, at the bus station, or in advance online
  • Available around the clock

For departures: Check the Platanus timetable carefully — there are 5–6 fixed departures per day in the off-season, which is fewer than the old Pleso schedule. In summer this will likely expand. Don’t assume a bus is waiting.

The catch: If your flight lands very late or your departure is very early and doesn’t align with a scheduled bus, you need a backup plan. Uber or a pre-booked transfer.

Ferry connections: Split Bus Station is a 5-minute walk from the ferry terminal. If you’re catching a boat to Hvar, Brač, or the other islands, the shuttle drops you in the right place.

Public Bus Route 37 (Budget Option)

Route 37 is Split’s public bus connecting the airport to the city through the Kaštela towns.

The reality:

  • Price: ~€3
  • Journey time: 40–60 minutes with multiple stops
  • Operating hours: ~04:00–23:45 daily

Why I rarely recommend it: Limited luggage space. The bus winds through suburban neighborhoods before reaching Split. The final stop isn’t in Old Town — you’ll need another bus or a long walk. No air conditioning in older buses in summer heat.

One important detail: The bus does not pick up directly in front of the terminal. Exit the building and walk to the main road opposite the airport. That’s where the stop is. With luggage in the dark or rain, it’s not obvious.

When it makes sense: You’re staying in Kaštela or Trogir (much closer stops). You’re a backpacker with one bag and time to spare. You want to move like a local.

Uber and Bolt

Both Uber and Bolt operate at Split Airport. Bolt tends to be more popular locally and often slightly cheaper.

Typical pricing to Split center:

  • Bolt Economy: €25–30
  • Bolt Van (1–6 people): €35–40
  • Uber Standard: €30–40

My personal experience: I prefer Uber over local taxis for airport runs because the price is confirmed upfront and the driver comes to your building entrance. No negotiating, no surprises.

That said, I learned a lesson the hard way. Before an early morning flight, I booked an Uber the night before — I wanted to be sure I’d have a car and not scramble at 5am. The driver didn’t show. I had to re-order on the spot and wait, stressed, with a flight to catch.

The lesson: Pre-scheduling Uber the night before looks reassuring but isn’t guaranteed. The safer move for early flights is a pre-booked private transfer with a local company — they have accountability, they confirm the pickup, and a real person is responsible for showing up.

If you’re taking Uber from the airport into Split: the pickup point is the parking area in front of the terminal entrance. Follow the app pin — it will take you there.

Summer warning: Peak pricing in July and August can push Bolt/Uber fares above official taxi rates. Check both apps before committing.

Official Taxis

Split Airport has an official taxi rank directly outside arrivals with published rates.

Official 2025/2026 rates:

  • Split City Center: €45–55
  • Trogir: €22
  • Split Ferry Port: €50–60
  • Omiš: €85

Drivers must use meters and provide receipts. Do not use anyone who approaches you inside the terminal — only the official rank outside.

When taxis make sense: Late-night or early-morning flights. Traveling with excessive luggage. Groups where the per-person cost drops significantly.

My honest take: Uber at ~€30 is almost always cheaper than the official taxi rank. The only reason I’d choose an official taxi is if the apps have surge pricing or I’m traveling with a lot of bags and need a guaranteed larger vehicle.

Private Transfer Services

Pre-booked private transfers offer meet-and-greet service with your name on a sign and flight monitoring for delays.

Typical pricing:

  • Standard car (1–3 passengers): €40–60
  • Minivan (5–8 passengers): €70–100

What’s included: English-speaking driver. Air-conditioned vehicle. Luggage assistance. Free cancellation (usually 24–48 hours). Flight tracking — if you’re delayed, they know.

When it’s worth it: Families or groups (cost per person drops to shuttle level). First-time visitors who want a stress-free arrival. Anyone with an early morning or late-night flight where the shuttle may not run. If you had the same pre-scheduling anxiety I described with Uber — book a private transfer instead. They actually show up.

Car Rental at the Airport

Split Airport has all major international and local rental agencies in a dedicated center next to the terminal — no shuttle needed.

Makes sense if: You’re road-tripping the Dalmatian coast. Visiting Krka, Plitvice, or inland Croatia. You’re staying in a smaller town not served by public transport. You’re in Croatia for 4+ days.

Skip it if: You’re staying in Split Old Town (parking is expensive and hard to find). You’re island-hopping by ferry (rental cars can’t go on most island ferries). Short visit.

Book 2–3 weeks ahead for summer — prices can jump 30–40% if you wait.

If you do rent and plan to visit Plitvice Lakes or Krka, I cover both those day trips via the Plitvice Lakes tour from Split and the Mostar and Kravice Waterfalls tour if you’d rather not drive.

Airport Parking

South Parking (Main): 900 spaces, pedestrian bridge to terminal.

  • Daily: €13 | Weekly: €91 | Two weeks: €182

North Parking (Kiss & Fly): Drop-off and short-term only.

  • 5 minutes free (drop-off) | €5/hour after that

CroParking Split (Off-site): Best for longer trips.

  • €6/day with free shuttle to airport

Split Airport: Location and Key Distances

Split Airport (SPU) is in Kaštela, about 20–24 km northwest of Split Old Town — not within the city itself.

  • Split City Center: 20 km (30–45 min)
  • Diocletian’s Palace: 22 km (40 min)
  • Split Ferry Port: 23 km (35–40 min)
  • Trogir Old Town: 5 km (10 min)

Worth noting: Trogir is dramatically closer to the airport than Split. If you’re planning to visit both, consider spending your first or last night in Trogir — it’s cheaper, much quieter, and the transfer savings add up. Money-Saving Tips

  • Compare Bolt and Uber before booking — prices fluctuate by 20–30%
  • Groups of 3+: private transfers cost the same per person as the shuttle
  • Off-peak travel (April–May, September–October) means lower fares and less competition for cars
  • Consider Trogir as your base — 5 km from the airport vs. 20 km
  • Don’t pre-schedule Uber for early flights and assume it’s guaranteed — it isn’t

FAQ

How far is Split Airport from the city center? Split Airport is 20–24 km from Split Old Town, in the town of Kaštela. In normal traffic the drive takes 30–35 minutes. In summer (July–August), allow up to 60 minutes.

Is there still a shuttle bus from Split Airport to the city? Yes, but the operator changed in 2026. Pleso Transport ended its Split route on 1 February 2026. The new official shuttle is run by Platanus, an official airport partner. Departs approximately 30 minutes after each flight. Book at ticket.platanus.hr.

Is Uber available at Split Airport? Yes. Both Uber and Bolt operate at Split Airport. Typical fare to the city center is €25–35 with Bolt, €30–40 with Uber. Pickup is in the parking area in front of the terminal. Check both apps for pricing — it varies with demand, especially in summer.

What is the cheapest way to get from Split Airport to the city? The public bus (Route 37) costs around €3 but takes 55–60 minutes with multiple stops and limited luggage space. The shuttle is the best balance of price and convenience. The bus makes sense for backpackers with one bag and no time pressure.

Should I pre-book a taxi for an early morning flight from Split? Pre-scheduling via Uber is not reliable — I had a driver not show up before an early flight. For early departures, book a private transfer with a local company. They confirm the pickup, track your flight, and are accountable in a way ride-share apps are not.

Can I tell the taxi driver to take me to the “city center” in Split? Don’t. Split has a large shopping mall called City Center One, and when it opened locals started calling it “City Center.” Taxi drivers may take you there instead of Old Town — it happens more than you’d think. Always say “Old Town” or “Ferry Port” (Trajektna Luka).

Where to stay in Split after arriving? Old Town (inside or near Diocletian’s Palace) puts you within walking distance of everything. For a full breakdown of every neighborhood with honest pros and cons, read my Where to Stay in Split guide.
